Villas – PL SI is a minimalist concrete home situated in Aix-en-Provence, France, designed in 2021 by Atelier Stéphane Fernandez.
The villas are in step with the panorama, with its considerable foliage and smells crushed by the sunshine. Nestled on a wooded hill, this inhabited limestone spur emerges; floating. The homes draw their power from the exhilarating confrontation with this highly effective and delicate nature. From the Villa Rotonda they draw the geometry and the cardinal orientations. From the fabric, the gentle and contemporary mineral Provence, they reveal their energy. From the bottom, the concrete emerges like a pure rock in the course of a panorama planted with a number of thousand endemic topics. Past a lived-in place, the villas converse of the territory, of the geography and of a convention, the Provence of Giono, arid, tough to entry, discreet and which discovers itself beneficiant.
From simplicity they carry the rusticity of the XVIIIth century bastides, nestled within the garrigue. The obviousness of the connection of structure with the physique and the local weather. The easy and apparent constructive intelligence of the oldest constructions.
The venture proposes three superimposed relationships to the territory.
The home of the bottom, illuminated by gentle wells, darkish, dug within the thickness of the bottom.
A home of the panorama made of enormous frames initiated by the construction eliminating the horizontal restrict between inside and outdoors.
A home of the sky centered on a patio, a vertical hyperlink just like the Roman villas, creates an indescribable relationship in perpetual change with the clouds, the wind, the rain.
The fabric is a instrument for understanding the panorama. Silky and gentle web site concrete, the contact reveals its complexity starting from grey to delicate white. The pure stone that covers the flooring is softened and displays the shadows and lightweight passing by the vegetation. The wooden, sanded oak, with its amber shade, releases its woody odor and is discovered within the components in first carnal contact with Man. The work of the fabric thickens the connection we now have with the environment and the passage of time. Thus the mosses, the damage, the alteration are stakeholders of this tectonic pressure which thus binds the Man to his territory by evoking right here the thousand-year-old rocks of the mountain of Sainte Victoire immortalized by the delicate eye of the painter.
