Positioned on two hillside parcels previously deemed infeasible to develop, the TrussHaus is a situational experiment which displays upon native legacies of recent structure in nature. The acute constructing website is outlined by steep opposing canyon slopes separated by a pure watercourse and public works easement resulting in the Lake Hollywood Reservoir. An examination of those challenges restricted typical website planning however rapidly revealed these limitations as potential alternatives.
Prior case research of the Eames Bridge Home (1945), Craig Ellwood’s Weekend Home (1964) and his subsequent Artwork Heart Faculty of Design (1975) reveal iconic options of hillside constructing searching for a recent alternative. Impressed by these examples the TrussHaus positions the first ground of the brand new three bed room residence between the area of two long-span trusses, making a bridge over the canyon easement with out disruption to pure drainage patterns. Residential applications are organized round an open plan accessed by perimeter circulation alongside the size of the trusses. Intimate glimpses to the encompassing panorama are framed by the very structural components which make these views potential.
A heat palette of douglas fir, walnut, and limestone create textured patterns of natural supplies which blur the excellence between inside areas and the canyon setting; whereas on the the outside, a weathered corten metal cladding is in fixed dialogue with the panorama, creating a pure patina over time.
